Acne & Acne Scars Treatment
IPL Treatment for Acne & Acne Scars
The IPL treatment destroys the bacteria in the skin that causes acne and targets overactive sebaceous glands, greatly reducing the number and severity of active lesions, and lessening the inflammation and occurrence of break-outs. IPL also stimulates the production of new collagen to improve skin texture, and can reduce the appearance of red or brown areas of skin that are often associated with acne breakouts.
What do IPL treatments feel like?
Clients describe the sensation as a snap of a rubber band against their skin. Some IPL systems handpiece has a built-in surface cooler which cools the treated area, increasing patient comfort and minimizing any adverse reactions. Topical anesthesia is rarely needed, but is available when IPL treatments are performed on more sensitive areas.
How many sessions are needed?
A series of 3 to 6 treatments delivered at 2-4 week intervals are usually necessary to achieve prolonged and marked reduction in acne lesions.
What should I do before treatment?
Discontinue sun tanning and the use of tanning beds and self-tanning creams 4 weeks before your IPL acne treatment. This will reduce the chance of skin color changes, and development of new lesions. Discontinue use of exfoliating creams such as Retin-A and other skin exfoliating products 2 weeks prior to and during the entire IPL acne facial treatment course.
If you have a history of herpes outbreaks in the area of treatment you should consult the Primary care provider for medical evaluation and possible prophylaxis prior to your IPL acne treatment.
What happens after each session?
Immediately after the treatment, you will experience some minor redness which typically lasts only a few hours. You may experience an initial flare-up after your first treatment. You can expect to immediately return to normal activities but always use an SPF-30 or higher sunscreen on all exposed treatment areas and re-apply every 2 hours throughout the day.
Microdermabrasion for Acne & Acne Scars
Microdermabrasion is an excellent treatment for improvement of non-inflammatory acne and acne scarring. This microdermabrasion uses a controlled, sterile system that uses a jet of fine micro crystals which are vacuumed across the skin to exfoliate dead skin cells and surface debris, unclog pores, and reduce the appearance of acne scarring.
Microneedling Treatment for Acne Scars
Microneedling is an effective treatment of acne scars, helping clients regain a more even texture of the skin. It also reduces the appearance of large pores. The microneedle treatment gently ablates the epidermis and volumizes the dermis, thus decreasing not only the appearance of acne scars and pore size, but also fine lines and wrinkles. It promotes skin renewal by stimulating production of hyaluronic acid, collagen regeneration, and elastin growth. The microneedles provides superior restoration of your skin’s youthful, healthy appearance using radiofrequency-assisted penetration instead of mechanical force. Compared to other methods of resurfacing, VoluDerm is an attractive option for people who have no time to spare for lengthy recovery.
What does the treatment feel like?
You will likely experience a warming of your skin as the treatment progresses. Since the microneedles open up the pores to allow better absorption, we can apply a hyaluronic acid serum to the treated area to achieve optimal results. After 4 hours, you may apply your other skin care products or makeup.
What are the possible side effects?
Unlike other fractional treatments, the post-treatment epidermal response is very mild and allows you to get back to your life without any down time. The intensity and duration of after-effects depend on the intensity of treatment and your skin’s healing properties. The most common reaction is mild redness that disappears within an hour or two of the treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Most patients see excellent results after the first procedure, however the best results are visible following 5 treatments. The typical interval between sessions is once a week for 3 weeks, then 3 weeks between the 3rd & 4th treatment, then 3 weeks between the 4th & 5th treatments.
